Healthy Home for All without being expensive

Now more than ever we are focused on a healthy and clean home. We want all the yuckies to stay outside of our 4 walls. However, while cleaning we don’t want to expose ourself to further harm from the chemicals we are using. Did you know that traditional cleaners found on store shelves are harmful to your lungs when inhaled? Yep, it’s a fact. Google it.

Here’s the thing since I’ve been there and heck I’m still there at times annoyed, overwhelmed and stressed that I have to read every damn label to make sure what I’m buying isn’t going to cause more harm than good to my families health.

Did you know if you live in the European Union, 1328 chemicals are banned. That means they can’t be used in personal care or food products. Here in the good old USA, our government has only banned 11. See something wrong with that? Yep, me too! Are you upset about that? Yep, me too! Let’s feel that fire in our bellies and do something about it!

Ingredients for my Fav DIY Household Cleaner
  •  Liquid Castille Soap is a coconut-based soap that is non-toxic and non-irritating. It’s the natural cleaning agent in many of these DIY cleaning recipes that’s mild, yet super effective.
  • Essential Oils are a great way to clean along with offering a fresh scent.
  •  Witch Hazel is a great alternative for rubbing alcohol. It sanitizes surfaces, but doesn’t have a strong scent like rubbing alcohol.
What Essential Oils to Use?
You can use a combination of essential oils to provide the natural scent in this recipe, including:

My Favorite DIY Household Cleaner Recipe:
1. Add liquid castile soap and essential oils to a 16 oz spray bottle.

How to find out what's really in your laundry soap and ditch it without breaking the wallet!

How to find out what's really in your laundry soap and ditch it without breaking the wallet!

When we are considering the health of our family, another area to take a closer look are the products we are using in the laundry room. I encourage you to consider the ingredients in your laundry detergent. Once you have stopped using your old laundry detergent for even a month and you go back and try to breathe that stuff or anything that’s been washed in it, you will thank me. If, for some reason, some article of our clothing gets washed in traditional detergents, I have to wash it multiple times to get that out before I’m comfortable with us using it. Just because it’s “free and clear” and you don’t smell fragrances, there can still be many of these other lurking ingredients.

Many families suffer from eczema, respiratory issues, cancer, sensory processing disorders, and autoimmune diseases that can be triggered or worsened by ingredients found in detergents. Your traditional laundry detergent needs to go. It is literally 24/7 exposure through your respiratory system and skin to horrible things your body has to work hard to process. Strain on your organs. Strain on your health.

WHAT INGREDIENTS SHOULD I AVOID? Need an easy button on what ingredients you should avoid like the plague? Here's your  Busy Mom Hack

  • Fragrance: Manufacturers combine a number of chemicals to produce a fragrance—so you’ll believe your clothes are clean because they smell clean—and they don’t have to list those chemicals on the label because of trade protection. As we’ve seen, some of those chemicals can be very toxic.
  • Cleaning agents (surfactants): These are included in the formula to help the product clean better. Examples include chemicals like quaternium-15 (known to release formaldehyde, a known carcinogen), diethanolamine (linked with skin and eye irritation and possibly liver problems), nonlphenol ethoxylate or NPE (toxic to nerves, irritating to skin, potential hormone disruptor, toxic to aquatic life), linear alkyl benzene sulfonates or LAS (irritating to skin and eyes and toxic to aquatic life; benzene on its own is a carcinogen), and petroleum distillates (linked to cancer and lung damage).
  • Stabilizers: These chemicals help stabilize the formula, so that it lasts longer on the shelf. Examples include polyalkylene oxide or ethylene oxide, which are linked with eye and lung irritation, and even dermatitis. And yet we wonder why we can’t clear up these lingering skin issues.
  • Bleach: Bleach may be used separately or may be included in the detergent itself. It’s known to irritate skin, eyes, and lungs, and when it mixes with wastewater, it can form toxic organic compounds that have been linked with respiratory issues, liver, and kidney damage. 1,4-dioxane: This is a chemical by-product of detergent manufacturing. In independent tests, Women’s Voices for the Earth found 89 parts per million (ppm) in Tide Free & Gentle and 63 ppm in regular Tide. They helped increase awareness, and Proctor & Gamble agreed to reformulate to reduce levels to below 25 ppm. Future tests should show whether they made good on that promise. Don’t have a lot of confidence in the progress being made here.
  • Brighteners: You’ll find these in detergents advertising their “brightening” powers. Brighter whites! Brighter colors! What’s creating all this brightness? Chemicals that actually remain
on the clothes to absorb UV light and help clothes “appear” brighter. We’re talking things like naphthotriazolystilbenes (linked with developmental and reproductive effects), benzoxazolyl, diaminostilbene disulfonate, and more. Since these remain on the clothes, they are likely to come into contact with skin.
  • Phosphates & EDTA: Manufacturers use these to make detergents more effective in hard water, and to help prevent dirt from settling back on clothes when they’re washing. These chemicals have long been associated with environmental damage, particularly in our streams and waterways. They cause algae blooms that damage ecosystems. Many detergents have eliminated these, but they’re often using ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) in its place, which does not readily biodegrade, and has been found to be toxic in animal studies.

Even though it was hard to break away from the detergent I had used for years, I knew that switching to Thieves Laundry Soap was right for me. Ask yourself, “is my health worth at least TRYING this out for a little while?” I know you can make the commitment."

Here's where you can find the Laundry Soap my family and I  use and how its so cost efficient it only costs me $.25 a load! Oh yea and it's non toxic because thats how we roll. Check it out.

Our Chemical Exposure

Our Chemical Exposure
So you’ve heard the chemicals are all around us speech but you haven’t jumped on board yet. You watch commercials about everything we are exposed to in terms of toxins and roll your eyes. And I totally get it. How fricken overwhelming is it knowing that maybe I can’t trust any product on store shelves. And come on really, not everything is bad for us….but how do we determine what is and what isn’t? And better yet, how can we make the decisions for ourselves what we are willing to submit ourselves to and what we aren’t. That my friends is freedom. Willingly knowing something is toxic and doing it anyway or knowing its toxic and deciding to pass on it. Let me give you an example. For me, I love to get my nails done. Do I know its toxic? Yep, but I choose to do it. I want you to have that same choice as it relates to every single product in your home. I want to educate you with what’s in it and what some better alternatives are and then you decide if you’ll make a switch or keep using it. That’s it. Easy peasy.

I hear these all on the daily and here’s the best part. I was that girl. Too busy, to actually research the products I was spending my hard-earned money on. Too naïve to think that large corporations could actually care more about putting a buck in their pocket than the health or my family and I.

Here’s the thing since I’ve been there and heck I’m still there at times. So freaking annoyed I have to read every damn label to make sure what I’m buying isn’t going to cause more harm than good to my families health.

Fall So hard...but not for this!

Fall So hard...but not for this!

I used to be the girl who dropped $100 in Bath and Body works come Fall. I was all about those candles and plug-ins making my home smell AMAZING.

Are you a candle lover? So was I. Then I became aware of how toxic candles are. Did you know that burning candles wreaks havoc on our respiratory, cardiovascular, endocrine (hormones), and nervous systems? They release volatile compounds into the air that we inhale into our bodies.

What's all that mean for us? Asthma. Allergies. Anxiety. And other health issues could be caused by your candles.

Did you know?!?

+The word fragrance masks over 3,000 chemicals behind that one single world. When you see this word listed under ingredients, just throw that product away

+Candles contain paraffin, which is a petroleum byproduct that releases carcinogens into the air when heated

+One hour of burning a candle is equivalent to smoking one cigarette

So grateful, I found a way to enjoy ALL the fall scents without harming my family, Peace out Candles see ya never ✌️
