There are those days when mom-life just gets the best of us. We can’t manage to stay in our mom power, we feel stressed and frustrated, but, mainly, we just feel overwhelmed with our lives and the list of things to-do. It’s the endless noise, being touched-out, or even just the overwhelming feeling of no longer being yourself - you’re “just” a mom.
And it’s so hard to deal with it alone - and I never suggest doing it alone. Instead, join the other mama’s dealing with the same feeling of overwhelm (and learning how to push through it) with a few life-changing affirmations - but, first, let’s cover what an affirmation actually is:
What is an Affirmation?
An affirmation or “affirmations” is essentially a process of affirming something (including yourself). Affirmations typically consist of a few words or 1-2 sentences that are directed towards altering your conscious and subconscious mind to develop new habits, patterns, & behaviors.
Affirmations can be used for pretty much anything you feel you need support in. That can include positivity, wealth, healthy living, etc. The affirmations we will use today focus on self-love and positivity - along with calming and healing.
Here are the seven life-changing affirmations I recommend:
I am the mother my children need and love, I do not need to compare myself to others.
I am embracing the direction my day goes and can stay in my mom power.
I am valued beyond my role as a mother, but as a wife, teacher, care-giver, and woman.
My day will not go perfectly, and that’s okay.
I will make my own rules and choose what’s best for me and my family.
I am allowed to take a break and breathe, having needs does not make me a bad mom.
I trust my intuition as a mom and as a woman.
How to Practice & Use Your Affirmations
The absolute BEST way to use and practice your affirmations is by creating a habit - typically in the morning. My favorite ways include journaling your affirmations each morning, this also gives you the opportunity to pick up journaling! Try writing down your affirmations every morning along with a journal prompt.
My second favorite way is pretty straightforward - repeating affirmations to yourself in the mirror! This really puts it into your head, but doesn’t feel as connected (in my personal experience) as the other two. And, finally, my third favorite: Meditation.
I highly recommend building a morning routine for yourself that includes both affirmations and self-care. For example, having your cup of coffee in the morning sitting in a cozy chair or out on the patio. While you’re enjoying your coffee you can repeat your affirmations and set your intentions for the day as well as practice gratitude for yesterday and where you are in life.
